What is Honorlock?
Also known as: Honorlock proctoring
Honorlock is one of the most-deployed proctoring services in U.S. higher education in 2026, alongside Proctorio and ProctorU. Unlike Respondus LockDown Browser (a closed-environment app), Honorlock is a Chrome extension overlay — it monitors webcam, audio, and screen recording while a student takes a regular browser-based exam.
Because Honorlock runs as a Chrome extension on regular Chrome, other browser extensions remain available during the exam. This is a frequent point of confusion: students assume Honorlock-proctored exams are locked-down (they aren't, by default), and instructors who want full lockdown have to explicitly configure that.
