What is Knewton Alta?
Also known as: Knewton, Alta
Knewton was acquired by Wiley in 2019 and the Alta product was rebranded as a Wiley adaptive learning system. Alta serves an adaptive learning path: as a student answers questions, the system branches into harder or easier topics, and just-in-time skill checks fill in prerequisite gaps.
Unlike ALEKS (which is more punishing about guessing), Alta is more permissive — but it still tracks correctness over time and recommends remedial topics. Math input uses MathQuill, the same WYSIWYG math editor used by Learnosity. Knewton Alta is often launched from a host LMS via LTI 1.3.
