What is Respondus LockDown Browser?
Also known as: LockDown Browser, Respondus
Respondus LockDown Browser is sold to institutions as the strictest tier of online exam proctoring. It is materially more restrictive than Honorlock or Proctorio in their default configurations, which run as a monitoring overlay on regular Chrome.
When a quiz is configured for LockDown, students are required to download the Respondus app and launch the exam from inside it. The Respondus environment is effectively a stripped-down Chromium build with extensions disabled. Schools commonly pair LockDown with Respondus Monitor (webcam recording) for high-stakes exams.
